"With Judicata, Itai Gurari believes he has built a better legal research platform. A lawyer and computer scientist, his approach to designing a legal research engine was to first “map the legal genome” — that is, map the law with extreme accuracy and granularity. The result is a research engine that returns the best results the fastest, he says."

    Congressional Research Service

    December 10, 2018

"A Dec. 10 congressional report on the effects of shutdowns said that neither judges nor their most important staff would be subject to furlough. Essential probation and pretrial services officers also would be protected if needed to resolve cases, according to the report, which found that most courts continued to function during the 1995-96 closure. Employees would either work without pay or be reimbursed with funds designated for other services, such as training or technology, Sellers said."

    Legal Talk Network

    December 28, 2018

To have a deep understanding of workers’ compensation, lawyers need to know how it has evolved in our country. In this episode of Workers’ Comp Matters, host Alan Pierce talks to John F. Burton, Jr. about his career as a workers’ compensation expert, which has spanned over 50 years. They discuss the history of workers’ compensation, outlining its legal evolution through different political and economic eras in the United States.

    By Ari Kaplan

"The time of talking about lawyers and nonlawyers is over. That distinction as a defining factor in a law firm culture has to stop. The idea of multidisciplinary teams is critical, and the contribution of technologists and business professionals is huge. We are seeing new career paths within law and also different skill sets that are needed. We really love what we do and are lucky to get to do it. I hope that the changes in predictability for work, cost, and resources, as well as developments in technology, will allow lawyers and other team members to focus on more complex tasks, which will improve both career and client satisfaction."

    The Sacramento Bee

“She was one of these people who could step back and identify an injustice that was not on the calendar,” said Sacramento attorney Charity Kenyon. “She saw all of these children in the backs of courtrooms and crying in the hallways. She said we need a place for these children to rest and play away from the tension that’s part of their lives in courthouses.”

    ABA Journal News

    January 2, 2019

    By Diarmuid Truax

"The inquisitors want to know what kind of people get picked for juries and how they can get out of a jury summons. To answer the latter, I usually suggest that they be difficult, be opinionated and be weird. Most of the time, that will do the trick. Further, they should speak up if they know anybody in the courtroom, including any of their fellow jurors. If they know someone well, this will surely release them from their civic responsibility. Or so I thought. I had felt confident with this response until the day I saw the married couple and the sleepy Wiccan high priestess fumble their way into the position of fact-finders."
