The Trump Administration’s Environmental Policies and Actions: Impending Disaster, Nothing but Bluster, Neither, or Both?
The Trump Administration has taken bold positions on key environmental issues including withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, seeking to roll back fuel efficiency standards, revamping the Waters of the United States Rule, and many others.
The pro-environment side of things decries these positions and posits they will usher in a dystopian nightmare of sea level rise, loss of key pollinators through speciescide leading to global famine, increased severity storm and drought cycles and the resultant severity in the wild fire/mudslide cycle, and a host of other disastrous outcomes.
Simultaneously, the pro-industry side of things heralds these policies and actions as a much-needed reining in of government overreach that offers much-needed relief to an American industry stifled under the last administration, and poo-poos the environmentalists’ warnings as nothing more than the crazed rantings of "libtards" and "econuts."
Both positions can’t be right…or can they?
This program offers a panel of legal, regulatory, and scientific experts that will tease out the Trump Administration’s positions and actions on key environmental issues in the hope of being able to offer a sense of whether panic is in fact called for (and, if so, in what sense), or whether the Administration’s position on environmental issues is just so much carbon-dioxide and methane heavy hot air that will all be water under the bridge in a few years, leaving the planet and its inhabitants no better or worse off than under prior administrations.
