ACBA Bankruptcy Symposium

 

The annual ACBA East Bay Bankruptcy Symposium is a half-day program designed for bankruptcy practitioners to keep up to date with the latest developments in the field.

 

Schedule:

 

12:00PM -12:30PM (check in and lunch)

12:30PM - 2:00PM (1.5 hours): First Panel: View from the Bench

Speakers: Chief Judge Roger Efremsky; Judge Charles Novack

Judges will provide the latest updates regarding bankruptcy practice in the Northern District of California, changes to procedures, attorney fee structure, conduit plans, best practices, and discuss chapter 11 cases for individuals.

2:00PM - 2:15PM Break

2:15PM - 3:15PM (1 hour): Second Panel: Hot Topics from the United States Trustee

Speakers: Tim Laffredi, Assistant United States Trustee, Region 17 - Northern District of California; Donna S. Tamanaha, Assistant U.S. Trustee for the Office of the United States Trustee, Region 17; and Greg Powell, Assistant United States Trustee for the Fresno and Sacramento Offices of the United States Trustee

Hot topics in consumer bankruptcy cases, highlights and best practices, employment, fee applications, red flags during intake, rise in fraudulent schemes, and chapter 11 cases for individuals.

3:15PM - 3:30PM Break

3:30PM - 4:40PM (1 hour): Third Panel: Gender Bias (Elimination of Bias MCLE)

Speakers: Leslie Levy, Levy Vinick Burrell Hyams LLP and Irma Herrera

A presentation addressing/discussing/ shedding light on gender discrimination, implicit and explicit, within our profession and ways to address it.  The presentation will be dynamic  and is intended to spark thought about the value of having gender equality and how to get there from here.

 

Please note: there will be a $10 administrative fee if you cannot make the program, and do not cancel 24 hours in advance. A $10 fee will also be assessed for day-of and walk-in registrations.
