California Paralegal Day Proclamation

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 29, 2018 – Mayor Mark E. Farrell proclaimed Friday, June 29, 2018 as California Paralegal Day in San Francisco to honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of paralegals across California.

California Paralegal Day dates to June 24, 1988, when then Governor George Deukmejian signed a proclamation declaring the last Friday in June to be California Paralegal Day.

Throughout California and the Bay Area, paralegals are employed by lawyers, law offices, and governmental agencies to perform substantive legal work. Their responsibilities require knowledge of legal concepts that is customarily, but not exclusively, performed by a lawyer, including case planning and research, interviewing clients, drafting and analyzing legal documents, preparing discovery requests and responses, and performing trial preparation and assistance.

The San Francisco Paralegal Association (SFPA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1972. Today, SFPA provides professional and educational resources and opportunities to paralegals and paralegal students in the San Francisco Bay Area. To learn more, visit: www.sfpa.com.
