Description:

 

Nonprofits focus on a wide-range of diverse missions and make a big difference in our communities.  Many lawyers enjoy representing such mission-driven nonprofits or serving on their boards.  
We will examine a lawyer’s ethics duties including:
Duty of confidentiality
Duty of competence
Organization as client and the lawyer/client relationship
Attorney-client privilege
Duty of loyalty
Independent judgment

 

Faculty:

 

Michelle Galloway

Michelle Greer Galloway has been an associate, partner and is currently Of Counsel to  the Cooley Litigation department and its IP group.  Her practice focuses on patent litigation.  She currently serves as Chair of the ABA Intellectual Property Section, Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee.  She is a Lecturer at Stanford and Santa Clara law schools.  She is a frequent speaker at companies and conferences on a range of legal and management issues.  Ms. Galloway also serves on the boards of several bay area non-profits

 

Erin Walczewski

Erin Walczewski serves as pro bono counsel for Cooley, focusing on nonprofit counseling and low-income entrepreneurs. In addition to representing clients directly, Erin helps Cooley attorneys firmwide develop the skills they need to serve pro bono clients effectively. She also works with the firm’s pro bono team to strategize about the firm’s pro bono practice. Ms. Walczewski is also a Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School.
