Juliet Jonas—Core Faculty, John F. Kennedy University
Monica McCallister—Paralegal/Sr. Legal Assistant, Shearman & Sterling

As clients explore more ways to decrease the bottom line on legal bills, firms are exploring ways to provide high quality services for less. One of the easiest changes to make in order to accomplish this goal is to put your paralegals to work! In this one-hour panel discussion, you will hear about:

  • What a paralegal is under the California Business & Professions Code
  • The ethical issues related to working with a paralegal
  • Substantive legal tasks paralegals can perform
  • How to efficiently utilize your paralegal’s skill set in the pleading, discovery, pre-trial and trial phases of a case

We will outline the specific skills paralegals have and tasks they can perform at each stage of the litigation process with the goal of educating attendees on the variety and range of contributions paralegals can make to the process.

Appetizers will be provided.

Will is the Co-chair for the Archer Norris Employment & Human Resources practice group, which routinely represents businesses in the defense of discrimination, harassment, complex wage and hour issues, and claims involving PAGA, DFEH, EEOC, ADA and FMLA/CFRA. Will also is Chair of the Archer Norris Design Professional practice group, representing some of the world’s largest infrastructure design companies. Additionally, he represents clients in all types of real estate disputes (including but not limited to: issues/claims related to easements, encroachments, landlord/tenant, landslides, all types of construction matters, failure to disclose, premises liability and water diversion facilities).
