Become A Trained Immigrant Rights Advocate

04/08/2017 10:00 AM | Anonymous

http://canalalliance.org/KYR/

Canal Alliance is partnering with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) and Dominican University of California to train community members to present Know Your Rights (KYR) workshops to immigrant communities.

What Topics will be Covered?

The Workshop will include training in how to conduct Know Your Rights presentations to immigrant communities, and a discussion about community response to potential raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including what a rapid response would look like and how to document immigrant rights violations.

The workshop will be led by:

Grisel Ruiz, ILRC Staff Attorney

Natasha Baker, Hirschfeld Kraemer LLP

Lucia Martel-Dow, Canal Alliance Director of Immigration Legal Services

Alyssa Simpson, Senior Attorney at Canal Alliance

Who Should Attend?

Representatives from community-based organizations, service providers, lawyers, community leaders, advocates, and concerned citizens are all invited to participate. Knowledge of immigration law is not required.

Why Should You Attend?

Every human has rights. Our goal is to empower participants to conduct Know Your Rights trainings within communities that may be targeted by ICE. After taking this training, you will have the knowledge to provide immigrants with the information and tools they need to protect themselves in the face of raids, abuse, and exploitation.
