Assisting Low-Income Landlords in Unlawful Detainer Actions

Join the ACBA Real Estate Section and the ACBA Volunteer Legal Services Corporation for this two-part training series on handling an unlawful detainer action from client intake through trial.

Topics covered include:

  • notice
  • complaint
  • settlement
  • recovery of possession
  • judgment
  • sheriff’s involvement
  • pretrial preparation and trial

VLSC administers a weekly clinic to assist low-income landlords with eviction matters. Our low-income landlord clients are generally elderly individuals or homeowners whose sole asset is their home. Typically, they’ve rented out a room to help make ends meet, and issues arise leading to the need for an eviction. Note that all VLSC clients are carefully screened for income eligibility.

Refreshments will be provided for this program. However, due to limited resources specific dietary requirements cannot be accommodated. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. each day.

TO REGISTER:

Participants must attend both sessions and commit to volunteering at the VLSC Low-Income Landlord Eviction Assistance Clinic 6 times in the next year.  Following successful clinic work, participants are eligible to take on pro bono cases in this area of law through VLSC.

Your registration must be confirmed by Christina Wiellette to be considered valid. If you have any questions, please contact Christina at christina@acbanet.org, or call 510-302-2216.
