The output is collective strategies for bias mitigation and empowering attorneys to own the processes.

    • Analyze how UB affects interactions & relationship
    • Define the 5 most common cognitive biases and mitigation strategies

    California Courts Newsroom

    January 8, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO—The Judicial Council at its January 14–15 business meeting will hear how California courts are increasing access for court users with limited English skills.

The update from the council’s Language Access Plan Implementation Task Force provides an update on its progress to carry out the Strategic Plan for Language Access in the California Courts. A recent report showed the judicial branch has instituted many of the plan’s 75 recommendations, including expanding court interpreters to civil proceedings, providing language help at court counters and self-help centers, multilingual translation and signage, and conducting outreach to communities about language services.

"Proposed rules from the U.S. Patent and Trade Office could bolster software patents.

Published Jan. 4 and taking effect Jan. 7, the rules would affect subject matter eligibility for patents under 35 USC § 101, which determines whether a product or process is abstract and, thus, not patentable. The updates enumerate what is abstract, thus opening the door to increased software patents. The proposed changed would affect the Manual of Patent Examination Procedure, the guide used by patent examiners when determining whether to approve a patent application."
