Legal Puzzles for Lawyers and Courts from the Gig Economy

Nancy Allen | Senior Counsel, Policy for Airbnb
Loni Mahanta | Associate General Counsel for Lyft
Moderator: Tom McInerney | Managing Shareholder at Ogletree Deakins

In less than a decade an array of high tech companies in the San Francisco Bay Area has revolutionized the way we vacation, commute, buy goods, or contract for services. These companies, utilizing cutting-edge new technologies to develop platforms that bring consumers and workers together to exchange services or products, has dramatically changed our lives. However, with this innovation revolution has also come vexing legal issues that have left lawyers, judges, and businesses grappling with applying longstanding legal principles to fast-developing technologies.

Loni Mahanta, Associate General Counsel for Lyft and Nancy Allred, Senior Counsel, Policy for Airbnb, will discuss the development of their companies and the many legal challenges they confront as their companies continue to innovate. This session will be moderated by Tom McInerney, a shareholder at Ogletree Deakins who represents many such technology companies.
