Career professionals should participate in an association in their respective field(s). Paralegals are no exception. We must network, educate, work together, unify as one association that takes charge of the paralegal profession. The stronger the association, the stronger its members. We believe that strong membership and participation are the only ways to accomplish these goals. As a prospective member of the San Francisco Paralegal Association, you are the future.

How to Join

To become a member of the San Francisco Paralegal Association, please complete the membership application and send it to the Chair of the Marketing and Membership Committee at marketing@sfpa.com. Remember to pay your application fee either by PayPal or by mailing a check to:

Membership Types

Here are the four types of membership offered by the San Francisco Paralegal Association.

Type Dues Description
Voting $85
To qualify as a voting member of the San Francisco Paralegal Association, you must be a paralegal (as defined by California Business and Professions Code sections 6450 et al.) who is currently employed.

Voting members are extremely important to the San Francisco Francisco Paralegal Association. Voting members may (but are not limited to): Act as practice section / committee chairs, according to their expertise (i.e. bankruptcy, litigation, probate and estate planning, etc.); suggest monthly and yearly events and topics to the Board of Directors; vote for the Board of Directors, when contested.

The San Francisco Paralegal Association depends on active voting members to join and volunteer for practice sections, committees, and events (i.e. Annual Meeting, Paralegal Day/Month). The San Francisco Paralegal Association cannot do this alone and needs your help.
Associate $85

During these tough economic times, any paralegal not currently working but actively pursuing a position as a paralegal, may join the San Francisco Paralegal Association as an associate member. Associate members are encouraged to participate by volunteering as practice section and committee chairs and event leaders. Networking within the San Francisco Paralegal Association will expand your employment opportunities by getting your name out there.

Members other than paralegals may also join the San Francisco Paralegal Association as associate members. For example, someone interested in becoming a paralegal, but does not currently work in the profession, may join as an associate member. Any person from another industry may also join as an associate member – accountant, legal recruiter, education employee, librarian, document reviewer, or calendar clerk – just to name a few. Associate members are also encouraged and invited to join and participate in San Francisco Paralegal Association events as leaders and assistants.
Student $50 Students enrolled in a compliance-approved paralegal program may join the San Francisco Paralegal Association. Student members are vital to our future. Please call, email or stop by any function or meeting and volunteer your services. No service is too small. The San Francisco Paralegal Association needs your assistance, in any capacity. Once a student member graduates and becomes a full-time working paralegal in the legal field or other comparable profession, their status will change from Student to Voting Member.
Sustaining $150 Individuals and organizations who wish to support the San Francisco Paralegal Association may join as sustaining members. Sustaining members provide the resources needed by all members of the San Francisco Paralegal Association to be active and professional paralegals. The San Francisco Paralegal Association relies greatly on its partnerships with sustaining members. One of the benefits we love to see is sustaining member participation at San Francisco Paralegal Association events. Sustaining members receive a discounted rate to attend events and provide our members information regarding their services. Not all members are from the Bay Area. We have many members outside of San Francisco and, indeed, some from out-of-state. We hope to continue to grow our number of Sustaining Members in the coming years.
