Co-chair:  Laura Herrera

The Estate Planning and Administration Section of SFPA is one of the more
active practice sections. We hold monthly noon-time seminars (brown bag) on
the second Tuesday of every month on a variety of topics related to the
administration of trusts and estates. A special emphasis is placed on
keeping our members and friends up-to-date in the areas of gift and estate
tax, as well as the intricacies of the Court-supervised probates, guardianships,
and conservatorships. The speakers are attorneys, accountants, and senior
paralegals who specialize in this area of the law. Members attend the seminars
free of charge. Non-members are encouraged to attend, and are asked to pay
a $5 fee. Members and non-members, please feel free to email
Julie Kawashima
if you would like to receive notification of the monthly
meetings, or for more information or suggestions for future seminars.

EAST BAY SECTION
Co-chair:  Open

There are many paralegals who work and/or live in the East Bay. Because many
SFPA events take place in San Francisco, the East Bay Section committee is
committed to make SFPA accessible to East Bay paralegals by providing
continuing education seminars, informational meetings and social events.

EDUCATION SECTION
Co-chair: None

The Education Committee consists of a paralegal educator (Dora Dye) and
voting members of the San Francisco Paralegal Association. In addition, the
Committee also has a student representative from each of the paralegal
programs in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This Committee hosts two important events for paralegals and paralegal
students. The first event is the Career Forum in the Spring where you can
meet practicing paralegals and find out how they entered the profession and
why they chose the field in which they are currently working. The second
event is the Chantal Russell Memorial Scholarship awarded at the Annual
Meeting in the Fall.

The Education Committee is available upon request to offer informational
sessions and review seminars on the Paralegal Advanced Competency
Examination offered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations,
Inc.
