PARALEGAL TRAINING PROGRAMS

The following institutions offer courses and certificate programs for persons interested in becoming Paralegals. While it is against the established policy of SFPA to endorse a particular program or institution, we do suggest that there are many factors to be considered by prospective students. The following questions are offered as guidelines in selection of a program:

• How long has the program been in existence?

• What percentage of students complete the program and find employment as a Paralegals?

• Is the program accredited through the State of California and/or the American Bar Association?

• Will the school provide you with the names of graduates from their program so you can contact them for information?

• Is there a placement service and/or a placement director available to students?

• Are there Paralegals on the advisory board, and on the faculty?

• Is there a field study or internship program as part of the certificate program?

As a prospective paralegal student, you should investigate thoroughly and choose carefully. For further assistance, contact the directors of the various programs and ask about orientation meetings and open houses for interested students. Your paralegal education represents an investment of your finances, time, and talents. As such, it is important to investigate all the available educational programs before enrolling.
